North York Concrete Walkway Repair: Sunken Concrete Lifted & Drainage Restored

The Challenge

A North York, Ontario homeowner contacted Canadian Concrete Leveling after noticing severe settlement along the concrete walkway beside their home. Over time, the soil beneath the slabs had compressed, causing multiple sections of concrete to sink and become uneven.

The biggest concern was the direction of the slope. The walkway had developed a negative drainage slope toward the home, directing rainwater and melting snow directly against the brick exterior and basement window. This created an increased risk of water pooling, basement moisture issues, soil erosion, and further concrete settlement.

In addition to the drainage concerns, the uneven joints between slabs created a noticeable trip hazard along a frequently used walkway for moving household waste bins. The homeowner wanted to correct the problem without the cost, mess, and disruption of removing and replacing the existing concrete.

Our Solution

Instead of replacing the concrete, our team restored the walkway using our advanced polyurethane concrete lifting and leveling system. Small injection holes were drilled through the settled slabs, allowing high-density polyurethane to be injected beneath the concrete. As the material expanded, it filled voids in the soil and gently lifted the slabs back into position.

Our crew carefully monitored the lift to eliminate trip hazards and, most importantly, restore a proper positive slope away from the home. This redirected surface water away from the foundation and basement window, helping protect the home from future moisture concerns.

Once the concrete was leveled, we completed the repair with our premium crack and joint sealant to help prevent water infiltration, weed growth, and future joint deterioration.

The finished project provided the homeowner with a safe, smooth walkway and improved drainage — all completed in only a few hours without the disruption of full concrete replacement.
