Homeowners in Stoney Creek, Ontario called Canadian Concrete Leveling after several sections of their residential pool deck settled unevenly, leaving a slope toward the pool at the diving board and a trip hazard along the walkway by the garden shed. Using carefully controlled high-density polyurethane injection, our crew lifted and stabilized the settled slabs in place — right beside the in-ground pool and without removing the existing deck.
Natural soil movement, moisture migration, and loss of supporting soil beneath the existing concrete had caused multiple sections of this residential pool deck to settle unevenly. The most significant area was around the diving board, where settlement had created a noticeable slope toward the pool. A separate section along the walkway near the garden shed had also settled, leaving a raised edge and creating a trip hazard.
The project presented an additional challenge because the affected concrete was immediately adjacent to an in-ground swimming pool. Lifting concrete in this area required careful control of the injection process to avoid excessive movement or stress near the pool structure and vinyl liner.
The objective was to correct the settled concrete as much as practical, improve the uneven transitions, and provide additional support beneath the slabs without removing the existing pool deck.
Our technicians used high-density polyurethane for the concrete lifting and stabilization process. Small injection holes were strategically drilled through the existing concrete, allowing the polyurethane material to be injected directly beneath the settled slabs.
At the diving board area, injection points were positioned to distribute the lifting force across the affected section. The expanding polyurethane filled voids beneath the concrete and gradually increased support beneath the slab while the technicians monitored the movement of the concrete. This allowed the slope toward the pool to be significantly reduced without relying on large-scale excavation or concrete removal.
The settled walkway section near the garden shed was treated using the same controlled injection process. The sunken edge was raised to improve the transition between the slabs and address the existing trip hazard.
The patio section leading toward the pool required additional control due to its proximity to the pool wall. During the lifting process, technicians closely monitored the movement of the concrete and the relationship between the slab and pool structure. Lifting was stopped once the appropriate safe maximum lift for that section was achieved, avoiding unnecessary movement near the vinyl pool liner.
Following the lifting process, the small injection holes were patched to complete the repair.
The concrete lifting process significantly improved the affected sections of the pool deck. The slope around the diving board was reduced, the settled slab near the garden shed was raised, and the uneven transition along the walkway was improved.
The polyurethane injection process also provided additional support beneath areas where voids had developed beneath the concrete. Rather than removing and replacing the existing pool deck, the pool deck repair addressed the settled sections in place while minimizing disruption to the surrounding pool area.
The final result was a more consistent and functional pool deck with the major areas of settlement addressed. The work also demonstrated the importance of controlled concrete lifting when working immediately adjacent to an in-ground pool, where injection placement, lift control, and monitoring of the surrounding structure are critical to the repair.
