A pool should be a place for summer fun and relaxation—not a place where uneven concrete creates a constant trip hazard. When several slabs around this Thornhill, Ontario inground pool settled out of alignment, Canadian Concrete Leveling used polyurethane injection to lift the deck back into place and sealed the joints to help protect it from future water infiltration — all without removing or replacing the concrete.
A Thornhill homeowner noticed that several concrete slabs around the perimeter of their inground pool deck had gradually settled over time, leaving sections of the concrete uneven and out of alignment with the surrounding deck.
While settled concrete can be an eyesore, the bigger concern was safety around the pool. Raised and sunken edges created potential tripping hazards along an area where family and guests regularly walk barefoot. The uneven slabs were also a sign that the supporting soil beneath the concrete had changed.
Our assessment found voids beneath portions of the pool deck, likely caused by soil movement and erosion. When soil washes away or shifts beneath a concrete slab, the concrete can lose the support it needs to remain stable. Around a pool, addressing these voids is especially important because continued movement can lead to further settlement and additional problems with the surrounding concrete.
The homeowner needed more than a cosmetic fix—they needed a solution that would level the settled pool deck, fill the underlying voids, and help protect the area from future water infiltration.
Our team began with a thorough on-site assessment of the pool deck, identifying the areas that had settled and determining where support was needed beneath the concrete. From there, we developed a precision concrete leveling strategy designed specifically for the pool deck perimeter.
Using polyurethane injection, we carefully injected expanding polyurethane beneath the settled concrete slabs. As the material expanded, it filled the accessible voids beneath the concrete and provided additional support to the slabs, allowing our technicians to gradually raise the sunken sections back toward their original position.
The controlled lifting process allowed us to improve the transition between the settled slabs and the surrounding pool deck without the need to remove and replace the concrete. Once the desired elevation was achieved, the injection points were professionally patched and the work area was cleaned.
Because water infiltration can contribute to soil erosion and future settlement, we also addressed the deck joints with our Premium Crack and Joint Sealant. The flexible sealant helps limit water, dirt, and debris from entering the joints and works with the concrete through seasonal temperature changes and Ontario's freeze-thaw cycles.
The result was a more level, stable, and visually consistent pool deck with the tripping hazards significantly reduced. For this Thornhill homeowner, the pool deck repair provided a practical way to restore settled pool deck concrete without the disruption of full concrete replacement.
